Custom Handbag - Inside and Out

A new post about this bag is here!

I've been in the market for a handbag with specific elements and have not found one in the store to satisfy my requests.  Having plenty of sewing and crocheting experience, I decided to design and make my own.  Here were the things I wanted included:
  • Over-the-shoulder strap (only one strap)
  • 2 handles
  • Fold-over design
  • Pockets to fit my things inside and out
  • I wanted it to be big enough to fit lots of things but not so huge that I wouldn't be able to carry anything else (I'm a mom with a toddler and newborn - I've got a baby carrier, diaper bag, and runaway toddler to hold as well)
  • It also needed to be stylish and match with all outfits

Here's what I came up with:
A crocheted ruffle bag (based on this pattern, but modified to my dimensions) with ruffles in the front, as well as a semi-discreet pocket in the front with a loop-and-button closure.  It's a nice, deep pocket!  On the inside, I have to sections, divided by a flexible cardboard (covered in the lining).  One section is flat for papers, envelopes, pens, and calendar.  The other section is 3-dimensional and holds my big wallet.  It also has pockets for my sunglasses, camera, phone, lotion, and anything else.  The top of the bag is higher than the cardboard division, and is crocheted looser, so that it can fold over.  The handles are available to use when I just need to grab it and go.  The Longer shoulder strap is convenient to wear on one shoulder or cross-body style when I'm walking around with the bag for a longer period of time.  Request your own and/or find me on Ravelry!
