Baby Boy Beanie - FREE PATTERN!

Hooks: Newborn hat, (14” or 35.5 cm), use 4.0 mm (G)
0-3 mos, (16” or 40.5 cm) hat, use 4.0 mm (G)
3-6 mos, (17.5” or 44.5 cm) hat, use 5.0 mm (H)
6-12 mos, (19” or 48 cm) hat, use 5.5 mm (I)
Gauge:  Using 4.0 mm (G) hook, 16 stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) of dc
Yarn:  Peaches & Crème/Sugar ‘n Cream 4-ply Worsted cotton yarn
Skeins: One 2.5 oz skein (Main Color), additional colored skeins (or partial skeins) for stripes:
Variation One:
one additional color
Variation Two:
three additional colors
Pattern is written using American crochet terms.

*Notes: Beginning Ch 3 does NOT count as a dc.  Begin first st instructions in the same st as the chs. Numbers in parentheses are the st count at the end of the rnd.
Changes for Rnds for Newborn Hat are designated with “NB.”
CAP
Start with Main Color
Rnd 1: Ch 4. 
10 dc in first ch.  Sl st to top of first dc, forming a circle. (10)

Rnd 2: Ch 3
2 dc in each st.  Sl st to top of first dc. (20)
Rnd 3: Ch 3
2 dc, 1 dc.  Repeat to end of rnd.
 Sl st to top of first dc.  (30)

Rnd 4: Ch 3
             2 dc, 1 dc in next two sts.  Repeat to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first dc.  (40)
Rnd 5: (Skip rnd for Newborn hat)
Ch 3
             2 dc, 1 dc in next three sts.  Repeat to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first dc.  (50)

Rnd 6 (NB Rnd 5): Work back loops for only this rnd
Ch 3
             1 dc in each st to end of rnd.
             Sl st to top of first dc. (50)

Rnds 7-9 (NB Rnds 6-7):
             Ch 3
             1 dc in each st to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first dc.
Rnd 10 (NB Rnd 8): Switch to stripe color
 Ch 3
            1 dc in each st to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first dc.
Rnd 11: (NB Rnd 9): Ch 1.
1 sc in each st to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first sc.
Fasten off and weave in loose ends.

             1 dc in each st to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first dc.
Rnd 8 (NB Rnd 7): Switch to second stripe color
Ch 2
1 hdc in each st to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first hdc.

Ch 1
1 sc in each st to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first sc.
Rnd 10 (NB Rnd 9): Switch to third stripe color
Ch 2
1 hdc in each st to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first hdc.

Ch 1
1 sc in each st to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first sc.
Switch back to main color
Rnd 12: (Skip rnd for Newborn Hat)

             1 dc in each st to end of rnd.
