Here is a blog-post version of my Baby Booties - Boy or Girl pattern. You may print a copy of this post. Click on a photo to enlarge. The pattern is also a free PDF via Ravelry. You will need the latest version of Adobe to open the PDF. Please do not sell or redistribute pattern as your own.
Baby Booties – Boy or Girl
Yarn: Peaches & Crème/Sugar ‘n Cream 4-ply Worsted cotton yarn.
Skeins: One skein is plenty to complete a pair, but you will need more than one skein for contrasting colors. Hook: 3.75 mm (F) hook results in a 3.5” (9 cm) long shoe
4.0 mm (G) hook results in a 4” (10.2 cm) long shoe
5.0 mm (H) hook results in 4.5” (11.5 cm) long shoe
Other: Yarn needle, 5/8” (1.5 cm) button, thread, sewing needle
SHOESpecial Stitch:Dc cluster: Yarn over (yo), insert hook into next st, yo and draw through stitch, yo and pull through 2 lps on hook. Repeat. You will have 3 lps on hook. Yo and draw through all lps.
Rnd 1: Ch 12.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in each of next 7 ch. Hdc in the next ch, 2 hdc in the next, and 5 hdc in the last ch.
Do not turn. Work around other side of foundation chain.
2 hdc in next ch, 1 hdc, sc in each of next 7 ch. 2 sc in last ch (same as beginning sc). Sl st to first sc. (28 st)Rnd 2: Ch 1
2 sc in first st. Sc in next 10 sts. (2sc, 1 sc in next st) 3 times.
Sc in next 9 sts. 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Sl st to first sc. (33 st)Rnd 3: Ch 1
2 sc in first sc. Sc in next 11 stsRnd 4: Work Back Loops on this rnd only.
(2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st) twice, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) twice, Sc in next 11 sts. 2 sc, 1 sc in last st.
Sl st to back lp of first sc. (39 st)
Ch 1
Sc in each st to end of rnd. Sl st to first sc.Rnd 5: Ch 1
Sc for 11 sts. Dc cluster 8 times (For Boy Booties – work back lps only for the Dc clusters). Sc to end of rnd. Sl st to first sc.Rnd 6: Ch 1
Sc in each st around (31).Rnd 7: Ch 1
Sc for 11 sts. Sc2tog. Sc for 5 sts. Sc2tog. Sc to end of rnd. Sl st to first sc.
Fasten off.INSOLE (optional)
Do the same as SOLE Rnds 1 through 3. Leave a long tail to use for attaching to shoe.
Attach to inside of shoe with wrong side facing each other (right sides showing).
GIRL BOOTIES
Right Shoe
Attach trim color at same point as where you fastened off Rnd 7. (see picture).
Sl st for 8 sts. Ch 11. Sl st in the 6th ch from hook. Sl st along ch and into next st on shoe. Sl st around. Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.Left Shoe
Attach trim color at same point as where you fastened off Rnd 7. (see picture).
Sl st for 20 sts. Ch 11. Sl st in the 6th ch from hook. Sl st along ch and into next st on shoe. Sl st around. Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.
BOY BOOTIES
For each shoe: Attach trim color at same point as where you fastened off Rnd 7. (see picture).
Sl st around the mouth of shoe. Fasten off.Strap (make 2)
Row 1: Ch 5
Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc across. Turn. (4 sc)Rows 2-8: Ch 1
Sc across. Turn. (4 sc)Row 9: Ch 1
Sc, ch 2. Sk 2 sts, Sc in last st. (Buttonhole made)To complete border: rotate piece clockwise to work along side.
Ch 1 and 1 sc in first sp (same sp as last sc).
Then sc once per each row for 6 sts.
(1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc) in corner.
Sc in next 2 sts (base of strap).
(1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc) in corner.
Sc once per each row for 6 sts.
1 sc, ch 1 in last st (in same sp as first st in row 9). Sl st to first st from row 9. Leave last sts of row 9 unworked.Fasten off.
Attach trim color to the left of ch-2 sp (see picture). Sl st around, ending just before ch-2 sp. Fasten off and weave in loose ends.
Attach one strap to each shoe by using yarn needle to sew opposite side from buttonhole to shoe. Orient strap so that it will reach the other side for a button.

FINISHING (for Boy or Girl)
Attach button to opposite side of strap on the respective shoe.
Done!
