Hooks for Circumference:
Newborn hat, (~ 14”), use H and G, but omit Rnds 5, 10, and 13.
17” hat, use hooks H and G.
19” hat, use hooks I and H.
Yarn: Peaches & Crème/Sugar ‘n Cream 4-ply Worsted cotton yarn.
Skeins: One skein is plenty, but you will need more than one skein for contrasting colors.
*Note: Ch 3 and Ch 2 do NOT count as stitches. Begin first st instructions in the same st as the chs.
CAP
Start with larger hook.
Rnd 1: Ch 4.
10 dc in first ch. Sl st to top of first dc, forming a circle. (10)
Rnd 2: Ch 3
2 dc in each st. Sl st to top of first dc. (20)
Rnd 3: Ch 3
2 dc, then 1 dc in next st. Repeat to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first dc. (30)
Rnd 4: Ch 3
2 dc, then 1 dc in next two sts. Repeat to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first dc. (40)
Rnd 5: Ch 3
2 dc, then 1 dc in next three sts. Repeat to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first dc. (50)
Rnd 6-10:
Ch 3
1 dc in each st to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first dc. (50)
BRIM
Rnd 11: Work front lps on this rnd only
Ch2
2 hdc, 1 hdc. Repeat to end of rnd.
Sl st to top of first hdc. (75)
Rnd 12: Ch 2
2 hdc, 1 hdc in next six sts. Repeat to end of rnd. Last 4 sts will be 1 hdc each.
Sl st to top of firsth dc. (86)
Rnd 13: Ch 2
2 hdc, 1 hdc in next 15 sts. Repeat to end of rnd. Last 5 sts will be 1 hdc each.
Sl st to top of first hdc. (92)
Rnd 14: Switch to smaller hook for this rnd
Ch 1
Sc in each st to end of rnd. Sl st to top of first sc. (92)
Fasten off and weave in loose end.
Shape brim.
EMBELLISH
Add contrasting color border to lower part of cap, stripes, or add flowers, buttons, ribbon and/or embroidery.
